Renovation Results of Finnish Single-Family Renovation Subsidies: Oil Boiler Replacement with Heat Pumps

Finland has approximately 150,000 oil-heated private homes. In 2020, the Finnish government launched subsidies for homeowner energy renovations. this study, we examine impact of two new renovation subsidies, ELY grant and ARA grant, from an efficiency point view. Data these reveal that a typical case is building 1970s where oil boiler replaced with air-to-water heat pump. With additional data Energy certificate registry, reference house constructed modelled in simulation programme, IDA ICE 4.8. Combinations several measures are simulated: pump, ground-source ventilation recovery improved insulation. We found resorting mainly to pumps not most energy-effective solution. Ground-source deliver more significant reduction delivered energy, especially on insulation recovery. also demand slightly less power than pumps. Onsite solar PV generation helps supplement part needed pump solutions. Subsidy policies should emphasize deep renovation, onsite electricity generation.
